In the late 1800s into the early 1900s, the Impressionist school of painting was at its peak. Painters like Monet, Degas, Manet, Pissario, Renoir, and others forged forward with a new technique that focused upon portraying light and the feel of a moment in time without hiding their brush strokes.
But all great things can be improved with Science. In this spirit, at The 2017 Steampunk World’s Faire the Research and Development branch of Caruso Kith Kin & Co LLC wants to try deploying a new technology named DEGAS (Digitally Extrapolated Graphics via Algorithmic Strokes). Where formal impressionist-style oil painted portraits usually take weeks to months to create (even in digital form) DEGAS, from an 8 megapixel reference, allows a skilled artist to paint one in the span of 10-15 minutes at a resolution of 80 to over 100 megapixels.
Furthermore, to take advantage of this resolution, we have teamed up with a professional print shop who is able to bring these portraits to vivid life on gallery-quality canvas at over 200-300 DPI, so every bristle of every brush stroke can be seen.
